About Dragon Boat Paddling
Are you ready to embark on a thrilling adventure? Join the dragon boat paddling teams at the Rideau Canoe Club and experience the rush of the waves beneath your boat. From May to October, you'll have the opportunity to be part of a team of 22 paddlers, including a drummer and a steersperson. Rest assured that at the Rideau Canoe Club, our focus is on promoting fun, fitness, and friendship. You don't need to be a top-notch athlete to become a dragon boat paddler. All you need is the desire to get out there, give it your all, and have a blast. Each year, we have teams at all different skill levels — recreational or competitive, male/female or mixed — we welcome everyone & strive to create an inclusive environment out on the waters. Dragon Boat paddling has even become a popular choice for parties and corporate team building exercises — It's a truly novel and fun activity that everyone can enjoy. So what are you waiting for? RCC DRAGON BOAT REGATTA - August 17, 2024
The ultimate Dragon Boat experience —are you ready to finally put your skills to the test and show off what you've got? Sign up for the RCC Dragon Boat Regatta on Saturday, August 17, 2024! Join us for a day full of adrenaline-fueled racing, cheering, and most importantly, bragging rights. This is the event you've been working all summer towards, so don't miss out on seeing the best of the best compete! This is a regatta for recreational community teams. The focus is more on reaching a personal best or best time. Can your team beat the time it’s gotten at other festivals?
Volunteers are needed to run a fun and safe event in the areas of on-water, on-site and in the tower duties! There is a volunteer opportunity for everyone - first time or experienced. This year's DB regatta will feature 1x500m + 1x200m + 1x500m Final + 1KM optional race and a Dragons For All division!

The Rideau Canoe Club offers registered teams two practices to prepare for this thrilling event held at Mooney's Bay Park every year in late June. Throughout the practice sessions, our coaches will help you improve your technique & paddle faster so your team can shine on festival day.

STEERING & DRUMMING CLINICS
Get your team race ready with the Community DB Steering & Drumming Clinics. Learn the basic techniques and race strategies from experienced coaches. The clinics are early in the season to give team members time to practice with your team before the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival. All clinics take place at the Rideau Canoe Club.
The steering clinics will be done in dragon boats. The drumming clinic will be done on land and will provide you with the necessary techniques to practice with your team. Paddlers can also get some extra time on the water by registering to paddle in the boat to help steers people and drummers learn with a full and powerful boat!

This program is perfect whether you’re just getting introduced to Dragon Boat paddling or are training for the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival in late June. Train with us from 4:30–6:00pm on Sundays at the Rideau Canoe Club. Crews are formed on-site the day of. Price:$100+HST

NEW! YOUTH LEARN TO DRAGON BOAT PROGRAM - AGES 13-17 - SPRING (MAY 19 - JUNE 9)
On Sundays in the Spring, one boat will be dedicated to Youth aged 13-17 to learn to dragon boat. The program takes place at the Rideau Canoe Club on Sundays at 4:30 - 6:00 pm. Teams are formed on-site the day of & participants will have the chance to collaborate and work together with other young dragon boat enthusiasts. Price:$100+HST

Join our exciting Summer Sunday Paddles held at the Canoe Club on Sundays at 4:30 - 6:00 pm . Open to all paddlers, this program runs throughout the summer and into the fall. This is a great way to meet new people and stay fit. It is also a good opportunity to network with paddlers from other teams. Price:$149+HST Keep paddling with the Summer Sunday Paddles!

This weekly program, running every Wednesday from 1:30 - 3:00 pm, is tailored to adults with developmental disabilities. Our staff are dedicated to making an inclusive and supportive environment for all, regardless of their abilities.
