NEWSLETTER

January 9, 2021

Happy New Year!
We start this year with continued need for our collective efforts to keep the community safe.  At this time the club is closed due to the provincial shutdown. If you need to reach the office, email is best - info@rideaucanoeclub.ca.

Athletes, coaches, staff and volunteers continue to plan (and train) for 2021, which is set to include the Tokyo Olympics and the CKC National Championships hosted by the Rideau Canoe Club in August.

This week sees the start of the CKC Olympic and Paralympic training camp at Shawnigan Lake, on Vancouver Island.  Rideau Canoe Club’s Natalie Davison-James, Maddy Schmidt, Rowan Hardy-Kavanagh, Drew Hodges, Steven Frodsham and Maren Bradley will be there, with more Rideau athletes to join in the coming months.

Best of luck to all of you!

Ottawa Sport Council - True Sport Community Grant
We are honoured to be one of the two recipients of the Ottawa Sport Council True Sport Community Grant for 2020, in support of the Rideau Canoe Club's Para and Special Olympics/Paddle All programs.
From our emerging Para athlete stars, to our athletes and coaches committed to building our Paddle All program, this is a special recognition. Thank you to the Ottawa Sport Council, and to our volunteers, Kim Hodges and Cheri Reddin for preparing the bid for the grant.

2021 Camps and Programs - Coming Soon!
Planning is underway for the 2021 spring and summer sprint, camp and recreation programs.  COVID-19 protocols will continue to be closely monitored to ensure the safety of all participants.  Stay tuned on our website and watch for more news and information about registrations in our February newsletter.

It’s hard to say goodbye…
Hector Carranco will finish his final weeks as Executive Director of the Rideau Canoe Club later this month.  It is likely impossible to express all that he has contributed and accomplished in this role over the last decade.  His energy, dedication, and pride in the club and all those around it shone through with each regatta, camp day, social event, racecourse set-up, presentation and conversation he participated in.  Thank you, Hector!  We hope that we continue to see you on the shores of Mooney’s Bay!
