Programming Update - Stay-At-Home Order
In line with the recent provincial stay-at-home order, the RCC has moved Winter Training back to virtual programming until May 6, 2021 for all programs. Although we are disappointed to not be training together, the most important thing is to continue to put the safety of our community first and to follow public health guidelines.
The RCC has a Covid Safety Plan for 2021, which will be continuously upgraded as new info comes out from the province and Ottawa Public Health. You can find it on our website on the Covid-19 page.
We are hopeful that the case counts will come down and that we will be able to start running Spring Paddling programs as planned at the beginning of May as soon as the stay at home order expires. Your Program Coordinators will be in touch in the next few weeks with more info on Spring Paddling.
Cold Water Paddling / Personal Boats Access
As paddlers. we're all itching to get out on the water and start doing the sport we love. However, it's super important to take into consideration the risks involved with spring paddling, in particular cold water and changing currents on the river.
Currently the RCC building and dock are closed for use. Members who wish to remove their boats from the club can get in touch with Reid by email to set up an appointment to take their boats if they want to paddle elsewhere during the stay-at-home order: Coach.Reid@rideaucanoeclub.ca
If you decide to paddle, please ensure you practice safe cold water paddling including checking the water temperature and current, wearing a life jacket, and not paddling alone.
Check out the RCC Safe Paddling Policy on our website, and the CKC Code of Safety for more information.
Stay safe, we look forward to being back on the water together soon.
