Issues with sports engine

When will the practice and coaching schedule be finalized:
  • Every effort is being made to finalize the practice and coaching schedule by May 23rd and will be published on Sportsengine.

I've scheduled practice times for my team but haven't heard back yet. Do I need to get in touch with someone specific to set this up?
  • No, if you entered preferred practice times in the registration, we will use that to get you your practices. On our end of the system, it is still manually input which results in a short delay.

The practice times in the online system are showing as CDT (not EST), is this correct?
  • The times displayed may say CDT but they are EST. For example 4:30pm on Sports Engine is 4:30pm Ottawa time. We've contacted support on Sportsengine and we are looking to resolve this issue.

Don't see your team in the Sportsengine?
  • If you have completed the team registration on our website , please give us time to create the team on the system as it is a manual process, hence the delay. If you continue to have issues with this please contact: dragonboat@rideaucanoeclub.ca

Don't see team paddlers or paddlers on multiple teams?
  • If your team paddlers have completed the registration, please give us time to update the system as this is a manual process, hence the delay.  For paddlers who have registered but still do not show up on your team roster or for paddler on multiple teams, please send an email with the first and last name of the paddlers to dragonboat@rideaucanoeclub.ca.

Don’t see where your practices are listed?
  • If you see your team but not your practices, you have yet to be assigned a practice. We ask for your patience while trying to schedule practices to meet all accommodations based on availability.

Do we need to pay for the insurance fee if we are only doing the 2 practices included with the Tim Hortons Dragon Boat festival?
  • Yes, you must pay to register. You will be refunded the 6$ if you are only participating in the 2 practices.  If your team is practicing only 2 times, registering paddlers is of a lower priority.

    Is registering with Sportsengine mandatory?
  • Yes, registration for the team through a sportsengine is mandatory as it is the only way to schedule practice times and coaches. If your team is practicing only 2 times, registering paddlers is of a lower priority. If you are doing more than two practices, participant registration is necessary.

What does the insurance fee cover?

  • The 6$ insurance fee is mandatory, it covers participants during practice times while paddling at the Rideau Canoe Club. The RCC is a member of Canoe Kayak Ontario, the provincial governing body for paddling in Ontario, and in order to get insurance coverage for all participants, the club needs to report accurate numbers to CKO. This does not go to the club but passess through and is paid to CKO at the end of the season.

Tim Hortons Festival:

Do we need a steersperson?
  • Yes, every team must provide a steer person for the race, Steering is not an easy task and we recommend that you appoint someone who has some canoeing or sailing experience (if possible).

If we really can't find a steersperson what do we do?
  • In this case there is an opportunity to hire a steer person. On the festival grounds, there will be a tent where teams can hire steer persons and drumbers. Please note that steers people are provided on a first come first serve basis, more details to come.

General questions:

Where are practiced held?
  • Practices are held at the Rideau Canoe Club (804 Hog's Back Rd, Ottawa, ON K2C 0B1)

Where do we find our team and coach at the RCC practice site?
  • We ask that teams assemble on the hill (you will see this hill when you arrive for the first time). Using the boat number assigned for practice, teams will group up behind their designated number which will be displayed on numbered signs placed on the hill and the coach will come to you and introduce him/herself.

When should my team arrive at the practice site?
  • Teams should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start time of their practice. Make sure to allow yourself enough time to assemble your team. During the core festival training period (month of June) there will be many dragon boats at the Rideau Canoe Club. In order to determine which boat you are practicing in and where to group up, please refer to the number listed on your schedule, a number will be clearly listed on the hill and on each of the dragon boats.

What should I wear to practices?
  • When attending practices you should make sure to dress appropriately. You will get wet during these practices so try to choose clothes which are quick to dry and weather appropriate.

Where do we park?
  • Please view the link below for a map  available parking in and around the Canoe Club. Note,  The Rideau Canoe Club parking lot is reserved for Canoe Club members ONLY.

If it is raining are practices canceled?
  • No. Practices are not canceled if there is rain. The only situation where a practice may be canceled is in the case of thunderstorms directly over the practice area. The decision to go on the water or not is made on site at the time of the practice. In case of cancelled practices due to weather, the DB Program Coordinator will contact Team Captains and Team Captains will be in touch with their respective teams.
