Reid Farquharson
The U18/High Performance Lead oversees the Rideau Canoe Club’s U18/High Performance Sprint Program. The High Performance Lead also works with the Dragon Boat coordinators and DB community to ensure their continued participation in their sport at the Rideau Canoe Club. In addition to the coaching and coordination role, this position also holds responsibility for the operational needs of the canoe club’s equipment, race course and facilities. About Reid: Having grown up in Ottawa with a dad who was Head Coach at Rideau in the 1980’s and an uncle who assumed the same role various times at Rideau in the past 40 years, paddling at Rideau is in Reid’s blood. Reid began coaching in the sprint program in 2015 working with various age groups. His passion for war canoe began at a young age and has led him to being highly involved in the U14 war canoes as well as Rideau's Nationals Championships war canoes. Further to his coaching duties, Reid maintains the clubs extensive equipment inventory and works on repairs of the clubs motors and boats as well as manages the race course. In 2019, Reid had the honour to coach Canadian athletes in Slovakia at the Olympic Hopes regatta, and is looking to continue to train and support the Rideau Canoe Club’s high performance athletes.
