Get into the fastest growing water sport in North America! The Rideau Canoe Clubs Stand Up Paddling program is the perfect place to get started in the sport or improve on your skills!


The Rideau Canoe Club offers programs for the beginner, the intermediate and the experienced paddler, as well as a yoga program, SUP for Kids and Seniors SUP.


What is Stand Up Paddling (SUP)?

Stand Up Paddling (SUP) paddling offers a full body workout in which almost every muscle in your body is used, from your toes to your head, to maintain balance and propel the board forward. SUP boards are more portable than a canoe or most kayaks and standing on the board gives you a higher vantage point to view your surroundings and wild life. It all started from the early Hawaiians. SUP in the ocean surf has made its mark and now you can find SUP happening on lakes, rivers and oceans worldwide.


EQUIPMENT: ALL the necessary equipment is provided for each SUP session (except Race Technique), including the board, paddle & Life jackets. If you have your own equipment, you are more than welcome to bring it and use it during the session, but it is not necessary.

Introduction to SUP 

The Intro to SUP is a 1.5 hour learn to SUP class.  Our Paddle Canada certified RCC instructors will teach you the basic skills to maneuver the board and be safe on the water. All boards and equipment will be provided.

Program details: 3-6 participants per class, 1.5 hour class

Program Prerequisites: None

*All participants must pay a one-time insurance surcharge of $2.00. This covers any SUP programming throughout the 2015 season.



Intermediate SUP

Youve taken the Intro to SUP course and now youd like to improve your technique even further. This one-time 90 minute class will look at the finer points of the stroke, as well as working on footwork and advanced turning techniques. All boards and equipment will be provided.

Program details: 3-6 participants per class,  1.5 hour class

Program Pre-requisites: Introduction to SUP or equivalent experience

*All participants must pay a one-time insurance surcharge of $2.00. This covers any SUP programming throughout the 2015 season.

Sunrise SUP

Youve taken Intro to SUP and youre looking for a great way to fit a paddle into your daily routine. This hour-long course will allow you to get your workout in for the day before the day even starts while improving your stroke. All boards and equipment provided.

Program details: 3-6 participants per class, 1 hour class

Program Pre-requisites: Introduction to SUP or equivalent experience

 

Sunrise  SUP includes classes twice a week for 2 weeks for a total of 4 classes.

Fitness SUP

This course is for those who have completed Intro to SUP and want to get some milage on the water. We will work on stroke improvement & distance paddles. Interval and distance paddling will get you in shape for Tuesday night SUP Club.  All boards and equipment provided.

Program details: 3-6 participants per class,

Fitness SUP includes classes twice a week for 2 weeks for a total of 4 classes.

SUP for Kids * NEW

With their lower sense of gravity, children tend to be naturals when it comes to SUP. Last year we saw an explosion of children participating in the sport, and LOVING it! There are even kid-specific races at most of the SUP events across Ontario this summer, including our RCC SUP CUP coming in September!

Set at a slower cadence, with small class sizes and with a little more self-induced swimming, this intro class will have your kid safe and comfortable on a board and ready for family adventures this summer! All boards and equipment will be provided.

Program details: 2-4 participants, 1 hour. Programs for age groups:  ages 6-9 years & 10-13 years

SUP Private Lessons

Private/Group SUP lessons are available based on availability of equipment and coaches.  If our class schedule doesnt meet your needs, or youd like to arrange for a private or group lesson, please contact the club. Private classes have a maximum of 6 participants.
