Coaching Staff

  • Cheyanne Farquharson - U15 Coordinator
Cheyanne’s journey in her coaching career began after 12 years as a competitive paddler and swimmer.  She has coached for the last 5 years.  She began her career running Rideau’s Regatta Ready program.  She loved it so much that she decided to study Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa.  Since her journey began she has coached at Poverty Bay Kayak Club in Gisborne, New Zealand, worked as Assistant Head Coach and Junior High Performance Coach at the Carleton Place Canoe Club, as well as a Canada Games Apprentice Coach.

Cheyanne enjoys working with entry level athletes attending their first regatta or completing their first 5km run.

  • Andres Carranco -  High Performance Coordinator
Andres has been coaching sprint canoe/kayak for Rideau Canoe for the past 5 years in both our U15 and now U17 programs.  He is a graduate from the University of Ottawa Human Kinetics program. He loves helping athletes figure out the next step in developing their technique.

  • Reid Farquharson - U17 Coordinator and Equipment Coordinator
Reid began coaching in the sprint program in 2015 working with various age groups at Rideau. His passion for war canoe has led him to being highly involved in the U15 war canoes as well as Rideau's Nationals war canoes. Further to his coaching duties, Reid maintains the clubs inventory and works on repairs of the clubs motors and all boats across every program. 

His passion for coaching comes from years in Rideau's sprint program as a kid, and the thrill of watching athletes compete or getting on the line himself at the back of a war canoe.

  • Wade Farquharson - High Performance Coach
Wade Farquharson has coached from RCC for many years, most recently as RCC’s head coach before retiring from the position.  We are happy to welcome him back to the team.









  • Leonardo Ortiz - High Performance Coach
I began paddling as a canoer at age 12 and continued training for 13 years. I later graduated from the 
Institute of Physical Culture of Havana, Cuba with a degree in physical education. I started coaching at Club Cienfuegos, winning the Cuban National Championships for 11 consecutive years. I also coached Cuba's National Canoe Team until February 2006. I worked for the Guatemalan Olympic Committee as a kayak coach until March 2008, and as a canoe coach for the Colombian Sports Institute in Bogotá from 2009 to 2015.

  • Conrad Hutter - Masters Coordinator
Conrad has been coaching and mentoring coaches with the Masters program at the Rideau Canoe Club since 2004. Over this time frame, he has worked with all levels of athletes from some paddlers having never sit in a kayak or canoe before to training athletes to compete at the World Masters Games. Under his leadership, RCC has finished consistently in the top 3 at the Canadian Masters Championships and winning it in 2015. Conrad's goals have always been to have all athletes enjoy being on the water and achieve their personal goals.

  • Aiden Stead - Coach
Aiden began coaching in the summer of 2015, after five years as an athlete in Rideau’s Sprint program. Since then he has worked predominantly with U15 athletes, helping Cheyanne develop the next generation of Rideau paddlers. Aiden’s passion for coaching lies in working with athletes to realize their own potential, and in helping them build their strength and character through sport.
