For the 2011 Paddling Season, Rideau's Atom, Peewee and Bantam programs will run Monday through Thursday as full-day schedule, and a half-day on Fridays. Our coaches are excited to start building a team of Purple Power Bantams who will spend the day at the club with their friends learning all the skills and fundamentals of Canoe/Kayak in a fun-filled, healthy and encouraging environment. The daily summer schedule will run from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (9:00am - 12:00pm Fridays). Monday through Thursday will be broken into four sessions with a lunch break in the middle of the day. Paddlers will be grouped according to age and ability, and will rotate through all four sessions including a big boat session (war canoe), kayak session, canoe session and a fun dry land/games session. Fridays will run with two sessions in the morning, and the day ending at lunch. The chart below is an example of a day’s schedule:
The Lunch-hour will be supervised by Rideau’s coaching team on-site; however, Bantam aged paddlers are permitted to leave for lunch, with parent consent. Peewee and Atom paddlers may also have lunch off-site but must be accompanied by an adult. Rideau’s extraordinary coaching team
is committed to providing a fun and challenging program that is age-appropriate
and follows the principles of Long-Term Athlete
Development (LTAD), a model for development in physical activity and sport that
not only provides a safe, enjoyable, and progressive pathway for children to
pursue healthy physical activity, but also provides a pathway to excellence.[1] It is the goal of the Bantam program to ensure that every paddler who steps on the dock will leave having had a happy and successful experience!

The success of Rideau's Bantam regattas relies on the dedicated volunteer efforts of our fantastic Bantam families. Please consider volunteering at either, or both, of the Rideau-hosted Bantam regattas this summer - we couldn't do it without you! Don't worry if you're unsure how you could help - we will be happy to help you find something and any necessary training is provided!
