Spring Regatta Ready Camp #1

Regatta Ready is a two-week introduction to competitive Sprint Canoe-Kayak for athletes aged U15 and provides all the basics needed to continue into the full summer competitive program.

  • Age Categories: U11  (Born in 2005, 2006), U13  (Born in 2003, 2004), U15  (Born in 2001, 2002)
  • Although no paddling experience is required, Regatta Ready Camps participants must demonstrate minimum swim ability.
Prior to getting in boats participants must show they have the ability to roll into the water and swim 50 metres (any stroke) and stay afloat (tread water) for 1 minute (as per the National Lifesaving Society Swim to Survive standard). Instructors will assess swimming ability on the 1st day of the program so please come ready to get in the water. Swim ability is assessed without a lifejacket or other flotation device. If your child is nervous about this process we welcome you to swim along with your child to ease the nerves.

If interested, ask us about our swim assessment dates set prior to camp to help determine if your child needs to improve their swimming skills prior to camp starting. If your child takes the swim assessment on one of these dates and passes, they will not have to take it again on the first day of camp...unless they want to! The assessment will take place by the doc at the Rideau Canoe Club in the waters of Mooney's Bay supervised by a certified lifeguard. No registration is necessary for pre-assessment or for the camp prior to the pre-assessment.

Returning Regatta Ready Participants:

Regatta Ready is the introduction into the competitive aspect of Sprint Canoe and Kayak. If you have taken the Regatta Ready program before we highly encourage you to sign up for our full day U15 Sprint program.

For returning Regatta Ready participants will be placed on a list and will be put into the program if there are any spaces available, priority will be to new registrants who have not taken this program previously.

If, however, there is space available and you would like to take this 2 week introduction to competitive canoeing again, we would like to remind you that you will be going through the same program again in terms of a few days of introduction to the sport, club tour, and will be placed in speed and age appropriate groups to train for the two weeks.

What to bring to camp:

  • All the necessary equipment will be provided.  Participants are welcome to bring their own.
  • 2 changes of clothing daily will be required; clothing should be comfortable, loose fitting and preferably made of quick drying fabric (they do get wet!).
  • Running shoes are required for dry-land practice activities.
  • Sun screen, water bottle, lunch and snacks are needed for each training session.
