With a great attendance, I had the privilege of cutting the ribbon and unvealing the plaque along with City Councillor Maria McRae, MPP Ottawa Centre Yasir Naqvi, His Worship Larry O'Brian Mayor of the City of Ottawa, MP Ottawa South David McGunity, our Mike Scott, Peter McBride, Expansion Committee Chair and Sue Holloway, Vice-Commodore.
The plaque reads: "The Rideau Canoe Clubhouse was completed in September, 2010 with investments by the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, The City of Ottawa and the Rideau Canoe Club."
This is what I tried to say during my speech:
"At the Rideau Canoe Club we have been dreaming of this moment for years. It is thanks to our partners’ generous contributions and to the Rideau Club members’ and volunteers’ tremendous efforts that we are finally celebrating this great moment in the history of the Club."
I firmly believe that without the tremendous efforts of all our members and volunteers this milestone wouldn't be reached. When it was his turn to speak Mayor Larry O'Brien gave Peter McBride and I a "City ot Ottawa Medallion" that I was honoured to receive on your behalf. At the back it reads: "Presented with gratitude to an Agent of Change by His Worship Larry O'Brien 58th Mayor of the City of Ottawa". I don't think I am an Agent of Change, I believe the Club, its members, is a living entity with a lot of energy. I get that energy from you. Thank you!
Now there it is, the Rideau Canoe Club new Clubhouse, for your enjoyment and care.
