Mike Scott, also from the Rideau Canoe Club, received the honour in recognition of his many hours working with athletes in preparation for international events. He assisted Angus Mortimer, Rhys Hill and Kristen Gauthier for the Beijing Olympics, and works with the Beaver Boxing Club to assist local youth. Mr. Scott is also a member of the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame, and previously volunteered with the Ottawa Sports Awards.

EMC Sports. Rideau Canoe Club paddler Ian Mortimer followed in his brother's footsteps last Wednesday when he was awarded male athlete of the year during the Ottawa Sports Awards.

"I was surprised and I'm pretty excited to win, especially because my brother (Angus) was a co-winner last year," said Mr. Mortimer. "Going into the awards I didn't expect to receive it."
