All remember the Olympic champions, but who remembers the heroes who for one reason or for another missed their target? For some Canadian athletes, the gold was within reach hand, for others, fate has hijacked the podium. Injury, inability to assert itself in of great moment, cancelation of an Olympic Games edition, despite adverse circumstances, they performed feats worthy of the sport’s greatest legends.

Sue Holloway could not win an Olympic gold medal, but she was the first Canadian woman to participate in summer and winter Olympic Games the same year. In 1976 she took part in a corss-country ski competition in Innsbruck, Austria, and a kayak one in the Summer Games in Montreal. At the 1984 Olympics, she won a silver and a bronze in kayaking events.
