RCC News No. 80 - September 9, 2009

It was a great week at Sherbrooke. Great weather! Great racing! Great results!

It was amazing to see all our paddlers competing at the highest level while many of us were running around from our chairs, to the finish line, to the medals presentations, to the tent!

Our athletes got 12 gold medals, the whole list of our new Canadian Champions is below, it includes 27 different athletes! Kristin Gauthier got 6 gold medals! Added to all them we had many silver and bronze medals! Congratulations to all the athletes!

The RCC Masters also had a great CanMas finishing third overall.

Watch the pictures and the war canoes videos from Nationals.

Paddles Up, take it away!

CanMas

Congratulations to all Rideau Masters for an excellent Canmas!

Rideau finished the day 3rd overall just behind Viking and Burloak.

The day consisted of 129 races all at 500m with great performances ranging from a 1st and 2nd place finish by Julie Looper and Allison Cathcart in Women's K1 to Bob Kay, Bruce Raymond, Mike Scott and Robert Kutenko posting a blistering 2:24 in Mens 65+ C-4 earning them a gold medal while beating out all competitors in the age category below as well.

Rideau had a 1st place finish in Men's 43+ warcanoe race by a hair and our very own Derek Mersereau won the Men's kayak of the year award for Canmas. Many personal bests were set and Rideau was well represented by all the Masters athletes.

Thank you to all the Masters for all the help in making the day a great success and an enjoyable Canmas experience.
