The RCC Annual Banquet took place last Friday night at the St. Pius X Catholic High School Cafeteria, an excellent venue for the event! The turnout was great with athletes from atom to masters and their parents or significant others. Thank you!

After everyone had their share of a great potluck, I had the opportunity to show my “Year in review” slide show that you now can watch here:

Chrissy Bourassa, bantam coordinator, and the bantam coaches presented very funny joke awards, as well as the serious ones. Here is a list of the bantam awards recipients. Congratulations to all of them!

  • best team boat - Bantam Girls K2, Kate Braddon and Rowan Hardy-Kavanagh
  • most dedicated (female) - Kate Braddon
  • most dedicated (male) - Nick McBride
  • most improved - Nick Oman and Bailin Xie
Kim Hodges made a presentation to recognize the PaddleAll program. Some of the PaddleAll athletes were in attendance and really happy to be there. They showed a great slide show too!

Then it was the turn for the midget an up athletes to receive their awards. The awards were presented in a very Hollywood like way, with the most accomplished athletes presenting the awards with a little script before calling the nominees and the winners. These is a list of the midget and up awards recipients as well as the awards that include all the members of the club:
  • best team boat (midget) - Midget men's K2 - Darcy, Emmett
  • most improved (midget and up) - Ben Tardioli
  • best team boat (midget and up) - Juvenile ladies war canoe
  • sportsmanship award - Katie Acelvari
  • spirit award - Kim Hodges
  • never say die award - Corey Hamilton
  • outstanding performance by an individual or team - Junior Ladies c15
Coaches Diana Deek, Mike Wadel, and Graeme Lind presented really funny jokes awards for this group of athletes.

Then it was my turn to recognize the members of the Board of Directors. They are an awesome group of volunteers committed to the club. Without their work it wouldn’t be possible to have the club we enjoy. Thank you to all of them!

Gonzalo Wills, paddling director, presented the coaches award to Ian Mortimer.

And finally I took the opportunity to thank all the volunteers and to present the most valuable member award to Peter McBride.

It was a great night with a lot of good food, a lot of club members and very well deserved awards.
