PaddleALL Coach Positions

Start Date:  Mid-May 2012 – early Sept 2012
Applications due: March 16, 2012

The Rideau Canoe Club is hiring PaddleALL Coaches for the 2012 season. The coaches selected will implement training programs for canoe and kayak with the assistance of the PaddleALL Team.

The coaches are expected to:

  • Teach canoe and kayak skills appropriate to the level of the participants.
  • Plan training sessions that are suitable, safe and satisfying for the participants.
  • Provide clear and concise information about regattas and social events.
  • Be organized, flexible and able to contribute to the team environment
  • Help with administrative duties and the day to day tasks needed to run a successful program and club
  • Motivate, encourage and instill a passion for the sport
  • Develop a positive rapport with paddlers
  • Create a fun, safe environment for the paddlers

Qualifications Required

  • Experience with PaddleALL program an asset
  • Experience working with children and adults with special needs preferred
  • Minimum Community Coach Course (or agree to complete the course by May 1) and/or ELCC trained and certified
  • Effective communication and problem solving skills
  • Experience in sprint canoe and kayak
  • CPR, Standard First Aid (recertification available through the RCC at discounted rates)
  • Police background check
  • Pleasure craft operator’s card

Fitness Paddling Coach Positions (part-time)

Start Date:  Various from late May – mid Oct 2012
Applications due: March 16, 2012

The Rideau Canoe Club is hiring Fitness Paddling Coaches for the 2012 season. The coaches selected will implement training programs as set out by the Recreation Coordinator.

The coaches are expected to:

  • Independently lead Fitness Paddling groups in a safe environment (awareness of weather, participant ability, participant whereabouts, etc.)
  • On-water, in-boat, group instruction at all times
  • Supervise and assist Fitness Paddling participants in equipment selection and care
  • Communicate openly and proactively with Rec Coordinator and other Fitness Paddling coaches about program concerns and participant updates
  • Work in a positive team environment
  • Help with administrative duties and be available for periodic coaches meeting

Qualifications Required:

  • Experience coaching Fitness Paddling athletes an asset
  • Minimum Community Coach Course (or agree to complete the course before the job start date) and/or ELCC trained and certified
  • Effective communication and problem solving skills
  • Experience in sprint and recreation kayaking
  • CPR, Standard First Aid (recertification available through the RCC at discounted rates)
  • Police background check
  • Pleasure craft operators card

Recreation Program Assistant Instructor Positions (part-time)

Start Date:  Various from early May – late Sept 2012

The Rideau Canoe Club is hiring Rec Program Assistant Instructors for the 2012 season.

The assistants are expected to:

  • Assist group leader in supervising groups
  • Maintain safe environment for participants
  • Assist participants in equipment selection & care
  • Assist proactively during group sessions
  • Open communication with Rec program coordinator
  • On-water, in-boat, group instruction at all times
  • Supervise and assist Fitness Paddling participants in equipment selection and care
  • Communicate openly and proactively with Rec Coordinator and other Fitness Paddling coaches about program concerns and participant updates
  • Work in a positive team environment
  • Help with administrative duties and be available for periodic coaches meeting

Qualifications Required:

  • Experience with Rec Program an asset 
  • Enrolled in / completion of Community Coaching course
  • ORCKA Flatwater Basic A-C (available through Coordinator)
  • Effective communication and problem solving skills
  • CPR, Standard First Aid (recertification available through the RCC at discounted rates)
  • Police background check
  • Pleasure craft operators card

Canoe Kids Leader Positions

Start Date:  Late June – August 31st
Applications due: February 17, 2012

The Rideau Canoe club is looking for enthusiastic people to work as camp counsellors for the RCC Canoe Kids Program.  Canoe Kids leaders will be working with children 7-12 years old in a day camp environment.  Both full and part time jobs will be available.  Pay rate is based on certification and experience.  Please send your resume with a cover letter indicating your level of certification, your experience and the hours you would be available to work during the summer.  There will be a few days of training during the week of June 25th to 29th and the camps will run from July 3rd to August 31st.

  • Introduce and instruct camp participants the basics of recreational canoe and kayak and various other paddle sports
  • Follow basic guidelines for Canoe Kids Camp programs developed by Canoe Kayak Canada
  • Teach and apply basic water safety technique during all camp activities
  • Supervise participants in all aspects of camp: swim assessment, canoeing, kayaking, dragon boating, games, field trips to beach, crafts and pre and post camp care.
  • Promote and encourage sport in a fun and safe environment
  • Must have a current Police check, Ontario Pleasure Craft Operators Card, CPR A or B and standard First Aid** and a minimum of Canoe Kids Community Coach certification*

Bantam Coach Positions

Start Date:  Mid-May 2012 – August 31st 2012
Applications due: February 17, 2012

The Rideau Canoe Club is looking for coaches to work with the Atom, Pee Wee and Bantam age group in the full day summer Bantam program.  We will be hiring both full and part time coaches to work in the program from 9 to 4pm Monday to Friday.  Coaches will be required to attend local regattas with the paddlers.  A paid week of training will be required during the week of June 25th to 29th, more information on this week once coaches are hired.  Pay is based on certification and experience. The summer program runs from July 3rd to August 31st.

  • Possess Expertise and experience in the sport of Sprint Canoe or Kayak
  • Teach basic skills for Sprint canoe and Kayak
  • Implement and monitor individual and team preparation
  • Attend local regattas and events as identified by the Bantam Coaching
  • Assist in selection of entries, crew boats, etc. for regattas
  • Communicate events, selection, practices, and races with athletes and parents
  • Must be able to work with Children in a camp-like atmosphere
  • Assist with club activities to build RCC team spirit
  • Must have a valid Police Check, Ontario Pleasure Craft Operators Card, CPR A or B** and Standard First Aid, and have a minimum of Canoe Kids Community Coach certification*
  • Encourage fun and safety in a competitive sporting environment
  • Have basic understanding of the CKC Long Term Athlete Development Model and how it is applied.

Master’s Novice and Intermediate Coach Positions

Start Date:  Mid-May 2012 – October 2012
Applications due: February 17, 2012

The Rideau Canoe Club is looking for coaches to work with the Master’s age group for the 2012 competitive on water program.  We require part time coaches to work in the program for both morning and evening sessions.  Coaches will be required to attend local regattas with the paddlers. Pay is based on certification and experience. The summer program runs from July 3rd to August 31st.
