Ottawa, January 5, 2011 – The Rideau Canoe Club is pleased to announce that Mike Robinson will be the club’s new Head Coach starting in May 2011. Mike brings 13 years of experience as head coach at Senobe in Nova Scotia and most recently at the Calgary Canoe Club. At both clubs he was very successful at increasing both the sprint membership and number of points at the National Championships.
In accepting the position at Rideau Mike said “I am honoured to be able to take on this new role.” In describing his coaching philosophy he said "the coach has been successful when the athlete realizes that the winning is not found in the final outcome but in the approach taken to everyday challenges ... As a coach this is how I have and continue to measure my personal success."
Hector Carranco, Commodore of the RCC, said, "I am thrilled to have Mike coming on board. His drive for excellence fits perfectly with our vision statement: 'to be a center of excellence for paddling.' Mike has the right combination of skills, knowledge, character, personality and experience to make a difference at Rideau. The Board and our athletes are very excited."
As Head Coach Mike will be responsible for designing programs and building a solid team of coaches to support the membership. The Rideau Canoe Club has a long history of paddling excellence with numerous Olympians and national team members coming from their ranks. Programs are available year round and serve athletes of all ages in sprint, recreation and dragon boat.
