On Thursday 16 more than 170 Rideau members and friends were at the 2014 Awards Banquet. It was a great night of fun celebration where the Sportsmanship, Most Improved and Most Valuable Paddler awards were presented to paddlers in the U13, U15, U19, Jr/Sr, and Masters categories as well as the PaddleAll Athlete of the Year and the Volunteer of the Year award.
We had several special guests in attendance: Al McCleery, John Beedel and Bob Kay who paddled for Canada a few years ago. Also Maria McRae was there in one of her last appearances as City Councillor.
Ian Mortimer did a great job as MC highlighting this year's achievements: Ontario Champions, 5th Place at Nationals with more than 30 medals and 7 crews that will go on the wall! A great list of Rideau paddlers that represented Canada in different international competitions and the awards recipients:
The last award, the Volunteer of the Year, was presented by Ron Sibthorpe to Marc Richard for the work he has been doing as an official stepping up every time it is required!
The last presentation was Jeff Braddon's, Chair of the Nationals Hosting Organizing Committee. Jeff talked about how pasionate are the organizing committee members to have the best Nationals ever! and that he sees the same passion in the RCC athletes that will be competing on home water.
After all the speeches and a great dinner the dance started with many of the athletes and parents sharing the dance floor!
