We are just a few days away from the 2012 RCC Canada Day International Regatta. More than 250 athletes in U16, U18, Open and Masters categories will compete in sprint canoe and kayak races at Rideau Canoe Club on Mooney’s Bay.

Local athletes, athletes from the Easter Ontario Division, athletes from Ontario and Quebec, athletes from the Atlantic Division and the Canadian Junior National Team, athletes from Puerto Rico the USA and Australia, will be in Ottawa to race 1000m, 500m and 200m on canoes and kayaks.

The Organizing Committee is getting volunteers ready to have the best regatta for all these athletes.  Boat drivers, officials, time takers, announcers, line judges, food services, parking lot, etc; there are never too many volunteers!

This is a great opportunity to attend a high performance regatta and see international caliber races at home. You can still make this event even better! Contact canadaday@rideaucanoeclub.ca to offer your time to help during the two days of competition.

On Sunday we’ll have a Canada Day Ceremony at lunch time and a party at the end. A potluck –bring salad or dessert—and pay $5 for hamburgers and sausages.

Check the 2012 RCC Canada Day International Regatta web page for more information.
