The Rideau Canoe Club is managed by volunteers. The club couldn't function without the numerous hands which labour to keep the club running smoothly. The club depends on volunteers to do a great variety of work. Some tasks involve special expertise or experience, but most do not. Some projects have to be done at the club, while others are done at home or
elsewhere. Some are yearlong commitments and others need a short burst of activity. Training is provided for all
jobs and all are welcome. Helping is a good way to learn about the sport of paddling and the Club. Here are some of the volunteer
activities that help to keep the Rideau
Canoe Club active:
  • Regatta tasks - parking assistance, boat drivers, safety boat observers, finish line judges, putting out and taking in the course buoys, working in the canteen, selling clothes, and selling raffle tickets.
  • Maintenance - assisting with boat and equipment repair, special construction projects.
  • Communication - telephoning, newsletter writing.
  • Out of town events - loading/unloading the trailer, driving the boat trailer, chaperoning … (you get the idea!)
High school students also have many opportunities to do volunteer work at the Rideau Canoe Club. Coaches may sign volunteer hour forms. Ask a coach for information.

In addition, it is asked that all competitive athletes / parents participate in our fundraising projects. These efforts are essential to ensure the financial stability of our club. Fundraising is common to virtually all non-profit competitive sport organizations. Maximum participation will result in less work for all.
