Registration for the 2017 Adult & Masters programs is now OPEN!

Requirements for all training/programs


All programs are member-only, except introduction classes. CLICK HERE to view details and to register for memberships. 
  • Programs or sessions which do not meet minimum registration levels will be cancelled. Affected participants will be offered spaces in similar programs or full refunds
  • Registrations are only considered final when payment is made - refunds will only be provided for medical reasons. Please review the Refund Policy.
  • Please view the updated Guidlines & Procudures 
  • “Moving -up” from one group to another group is possible but only with the permission of the Masters Coordinator
  • Please be aware of the CKC Affiliation Fee, EOD Affiliation Fee, OCSRA Affiliation Fee, CKO Affiliation Fees . Each member registered in a competitive program must pay the respective affiliation fee to the National Governing body - CanoeKayak Canada, Eastern Ontario Division, Ontario Canoe Sprint Racing Association and Canoe Kayak Ontario in order to be able to race at sanctioned regattas and Nationals/CanMas.  These fees do not go to the Rideau Canoe Club but to CKC, EOD, OSCRA and CKO respectively.  These fees have been included Sprint Program registration process.

Introduction

Ever wondered if you could paddle one of those skinny Olympic boats?  In Introduction to Sprint Paddling for adults, participants will work simultaneously on developing fitness and technical proficiency. Topics and skills covered will include care for high-performance boats, cockpit/paddle set-up, proper paddling technique, starts, turning, and basic racing strategies. Introduction paddlers are encouraged to participate in one of the many RCC Friday Night races to test your ability (regatta registration fees are extra).

  •  Introduction 1 - Monday & Wednesday 7:45-8:45pm; May 24 - June 14; $188.00 + HST
  •  Introduction 2 - Tuesday & Thursday 7:45-8:45pm; May 23 - June 15; $214.00 + HST
  •  Introduction 3 - Monday & Wednesday 7:45-8:45pm; June 19 - July 12; $214.00 + HST
  •  Introduction 4 - Tuesday & Thursday 7:45-8:45pm; June 20 - July 13; $214.00 + HST
  •  Introduction 5 - Monday & Wednesday 7:45-8:45pm; July 17 - August 9; $188.00 + HST 
    • There will be no paddling on Aug 7th
  •  Introduction 6 - Tuesday & Thursday, 7:45 to 8:45pm; July 18 - Aug 10; $214.00 + HST
  • no balance required; entry level boats (slenders) are used
  • No experience required
  • No membership required
  • minimum Participants per session: 3, maximum Participants per session: 6
  • If you enjoyed the Intro session and would like to continue with the Novice session, here is the breakdown:
    • If you completed Intro sessions beginning in May - you will have to get a membership and you will receive $100 off Novice session program fees.
    • If you completed the Intro sessions beginning in June - you will have to get a membership and you will receive $150 off Novice session program fees.
    • If you completed the Intro sessions beginning in July - you will only have to pay membership and your program fees will be waived.

Novice & Intermediate

Got a great Introduction to Sprint Paddling and you are ready for the next level, but may not be ready to race.  Continue to work on  developing fitness and technical proficiency. Topics and skills covered will include continued improvement on proper paddling technique, starts, turning, and racing strategies. Novice paddlers are encouraged to participate in one of the many available Masters Regattas over the summer (regatta registration fees are extra).

  • ADULT - Intermediate 1 - 2 sessions - 
  • Tuesday & Thursday 6-7:15am; May 9 - Sep 28; 
  • $295.00 + HST
  • ADULT - Intermediate 1 - 3 sessions - 
  • Tuesday & Thursday 6-7:15am, Saturday 6:30-8:00am; May 9 - Sep 28; $
  • 349.00 + HST
  • ADULT - Novice Canoe - Monday & Wednesday 5:45-7:00pm; May 17 - Sept 27; $295 + HST
    • Expect to be doing potentially be doing dryland for the first on water week, water temperature dependent. 
  • ADULT - Novice -  Monday & Wednesday 6-7:15pm; May 15th- Sept 27; $295 +  HST
  • ADULT - Novice/Intermediate - Wednesday & Friday 6-7:15am; May 17 - Sept 29; $295 + HST
  • Novice - balance required; entry level boats (slenders) are used
  • Intermediate - able to paddle in a minimum of a delphine, malker k-2, or commander k-4 with the goal of being able to paddle in a lancer/rapier by the end of the summer. Previous paddling experience required
  • Completed an Introduction class
  • Membership required - athletes and family members must complete a membership registration before being able to register for Novice/Intermediate sessions

Intermediate & Advanced

Intermediate Masters is a program for more goal-oriented adult paddlers. If you want to get a personal best time at a regatta, become a proficient marathon paddler, or just enjoy going fast on the water this program is for you. Topics and skills covered will include racing strategy, training philosophy, performance paddling technique, racing starts, interval training, and team boats. Intermediate paddlers are strongly encouraged to compete in more than one of the summer Masters Regattas.

Advanced Masters is a program for adult paddlers who want to push themselves to their limit on the water. Kayaks and canoes are welcome – as long as they are fast! Workouts will focus on developing peak speed, anaerobic capacity, and refining minute technique details to shave precious seconds off personal bests. High Performance paddlers are strongly encouraged to have their own boats/paddles and to train on their own on other days of the week. Advanced paddlers are strongly encouraged to compete in more than one of the summer Masters Regattas.

  • Intermediate/Advanced 1 - 3 sessions - Monday & Wednesday 6-7:15pm, Saturday 6:30-8am; May 8 - Oct 18; $349.00 + HST
  • Intermediate/Advanced 2 - 2 sessions - Tuesday & Thursday 6-7:15pm; May 9 - Oct 19; $295.00 + HST
  • Intermediate/Advanced 2 - 3 sessions - Tuesday & Thursday 6-7:15pm, Saturday 6:30-8am; May 9 - Oct 19; $349.00 + HST
  • Intermediate - able to paddle in a minimum of a delphine, malker k-2, or commander k-4 with the goal of being able to paddle in a lancer/rapier by the end of the summer. Previous paddling experience required.
  • Advanced - able to paddle in a minimum of a lancer k-1, regina k-2, or purple K-4. Have at least 2 seasons of paddling under their belt.
  • Membership required - athletes and family members must complete a membership registration before being able to register for Intermediate/Advanced sessions

War Canoe

If you think paddling fast by yourself is thrilling imagine paddling fast in a 15-paddler team! War Canoe is a uniquely Canadian event stressing explosive speed, team work, and mutual achievement. The Rideau Canoe Club has a rich history of War Canoe racing an participants in this program are strongly encouraged to continue our winning traditions in Male, Female, Mixed, Novice, and Senior Masters categories.
