2017 Season


The Rideau Canoe Club is located on some of the best training flat water in the country on Mooney's Bay in Ottawa. We have been consistently among the top canoe clubs in Canada at the National Championships. We are the 2015 Canadian Sprint CanoeKayak Champions! Over the years, the club has managed to successfully maintain its performance at the highest level, while continuing to offer successful programs to paddlers of all ages in Summer Camps, Sprint, Recreational and Dragon Boat programs.

Rideau is currently hiring for the following positions:
  • CANTEEN PART-TIME AND FULL-TIME STAFF
  • CANOE AND KAYAK RENTAL ATTENDANTS
  • CANTEEN SUPERVISOR
  • COURSE AND EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN

  • CANTEEN PART-TIME AND FULL-TIME STAFF
The Rideau Canoe Club is looking for enthusiastic, mature, organized individuals to work as Canteen Staff at RCC.  The Canteen at RCC will be open weekdays during the summer months offering snacks and light meals for sale to club members and camp participants. The Canteen Staff reports to the Canteen Supervisor. 

For the period of 10 weeks, June 26th – September 1st, 2017. Applicants must be available for regularly scheduled shifts during all 10 weeks and possibly some weekends.  Applicants must identified non availability at the interview.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 
  • prepare daily meals and snacks in the canteen
  • work the cash, give change and count money
  • maintain an organized, sanitary work environment by implementing safe food handling practices 
  • assist in planning, stocking and preparing food for Regattas as requested by Canteen Supervisor 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • must have Food Handler Certification http://ottawa.ca/en/residents/public-health/food-premises-personal-service-settings-and-inspections/food-premises-0 ( proof of registration for course must be shown) 
  • must be available to work throughout June to August, while the canteen is open.
ASSET:  
  • be available to work weekends
  • CANOE AND KAYAK RENTAL ATTENDANTS
The Rideau Canoe Club is hiring Canoe and Kayak Rental Operators for the new Canoe and Kayak Rental Service on Mooney’s Bay. The Canoe and Kayak Rental Operators will be the face of the Rideau Canoe Club, delivering high-quality canoe and kayak rental service on Mooney’s Bay Beach. The Canoe and Kayak Rental Service on Mooney’s Bay will run Friday 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Saturday, Sunday and holidays (10:30 am to 7:30 pm) from May 20, 2017 to September 4, 2017 (inclusively).

Canoe and Kayak Rental Operators will be responsible of running the Canoe and Kayak Rental Operation on Mooney’s Bay Beach: 
    • Maintain safe environment for participants
    • Setting up and taking down the rental booth every day
    • Attend customers wanting to rent canoes or kayaks
    • Assist participants in equipment selection & care
    • Manage the rental payments
    • Report to the Club Administrator
Requirements: 
    • Effective communication and problem solving skills 
    • Current CPR & Standard First Aid 
    • Police background check 
    • Pleasure craft operators card
    • Experience with Recreational Program an asset 
    • ORCKA Flatwater Basic Canoeing and Kayaking (or Paddle Canada equivalent) or Community Coaching certification and asset

  • CANTEEN SUPERVISOR
Full time position from June 26th to September 1st, 2017, plus up to 20 hours for  planning and preparation in the two weeks prior to opening.

The Rideau Canoe Club is looking for an enthusiastic, mature, organized individual to work as Canteen Supervisor at RCC. The Canteen at RCC will be open weekdays during the summer months offering snacks and light meals for sale to club members and camp participants.

The Canteen Supervisor reports to the Volunteer Canteen Coordinator.

  • track and balance canteen budget 
  • make regular bank deposits of canteen revenues

  • report regularly to Canteen Coordinator 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • must have City of Ottawa Food Handler Certification (certification must be obtained prior to start of employment; proof of registration for course must be shown within two weeks of accepting job offer) 
  • must be available to work throughout June and August, while the canteen is open.
  • hospitality experience
  • ASSETS:
  • have driver's license and use of a vehicle for shopping and other canteen related errands  
  • be available to work weekends
  • valid Standard First Aid Certification

  • COURSE AND EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN
The Course and Equipment Technician is full time position from May to August, 2017. The Course and Equipment Technician will assist in assembling, maintaining, installing, and removing all on/in-water equipment (including boats, motors, lines and buoys, etc) necessary for national level on-water racing events, including sprint canoe/kayak, dragon boat, and other such events held on Mooney's Bay, Ottawa, during the on-water season.

Working with the Dock Duty Supervisor will ensure the clubs' motor boats are in working order at the start of each day, ensuring sufficient gas for motor boats & purchasing gas as needed, assist during regattas with set-up, clean-up & tear-down and ensuring motor boats are locked up properly.

The Course and Equipment Technician is also expected to on occasion perform some maintenance and repair work when required, 

The Course and Equipment Technician should have good self-motivation, a strong mechanical aptitude and a suitable mechanical background, basic carpentry and tool handling skills, and must know how to swim.

  • DOCK DUTY SUPERVISOR
The Dock Duty Supervisor is a full time position from May 1 to August 31, 2017. The Dock Duty Supervisor will have 3 major responsibilities: be in charge of the canoe club motor boats; supervise the dock duty staff; and supervise the dock. The main tasks in each of the responsibilities are: 

Motor Boats - ensuring the clubs' motor boats are in working order at the start of each day, ensuring sufficient gas for motor boats & purchasing gas as needed, assist during regattas with set-up, clean-up & tear-down and ensuring motor boats are locked up properly.

Supervising Staff - scheduling and supervising Dock Duty workers, provide weekly email to workers with updates & special projects required for upcoming events/regattas, collecting and approving time sheets  emailed to Payroll, developing the work log and ensuring that work is being completed, being the main contact between the workers and the RCC, and being in constant contact with the Club Administrator with feedback and comment from membership as well as workers.

Dock Supervision - greeting the public/members and providing information about our club and programs, ensure unsupervised paddlers leaving the dock are in compliance with club policies, provide safety supervision for the dock area, be familiar with RCC water safety protocol and comfortable calling people/teams off the water for safety reasons when necessary, assist in responding to emergencies as needed and completing necessary reports, follow the daily check list & log important info in log book, closing up and securing building at the end of the day.

  • First aid and CPR C certification 
  • Pleasure craft operator card
  • Small Engines certification is an asset
  • Administration experience is an asset
  • Needs to be a student returning to school in the fall
