The Rideau Canoe Club is located on some of the best training flat water in the country on Mooney's Bay in Ottawa. We have been consistently among the top canoe clubs in Canada at the National Championships. We are the 2018 Canadian Sprint CanoeKayak Champions! Over the years, the club has managed to successfully maintain its performance at the highest level, while continuing to offer successful programs to paddlers of all ages in Summer Camps, Sprint, Paddling and Dragon Boat programs.

Rideau is currently hiring for the following position:
  • Canoe Kids Leaders (Full-Time and Part-Time)
  • Dock Duty Supervisor (Full-Time)
  • Dock Duty Staff (Part-Time)
  • Race Course Technician (Full-Time)

  • Canoe Kids Leaders

The Rideau Canoe club is looking for enthusiastic people to work as camp Leaders for the RCC Canoe Kids Program.  Canoe Kids leaders will be working with children 7-12 years old in a day camp environment where both full and part time jobs will be available.  Pay rate is based on certification and experience.  There will be a day of training one week before the start and the camps will run from June 24 to August 30.

Requirements: 
  • Introduce and instruct camp participants on the basics of recreational canoe and kayak and various other paddle sports 
  • Follow basic guidelines for Canoe Kids Camp programs developed by Canoe Kayak Canada
  • Teach and apply basic water safety technique during all camp activities
  • Supervise participants in all aspects of camp: swim assessment, canoeing, kayaking, dragon boating, games, field trips to beach, crafts and pre and post camp care.
  • Promote and encourage sport in a fun and safe environment.
Qualifications:
  • Current Police check (if over 18)
  • Ontario Pleasure Craft Operators Card
  • CPR C and Standard First Aid
  • Minimum of Canoe Kids Community Coach certification
  • Life Guard Certification is an asset (can be obtained in May)

  • Dock Duty Supervisor

The Rideau Canoe club is looking for an enthusiastic individual to work as full-time Dock Duty Supervisor.  The Dock Duty Supervisor will be working full time around the club and supervising the dock duty staff. The dock duty supervisor will have 3 major responsibilities: supervise the dock duty staff; be in charge of the canoe club motor boats; and supervise the dock. Pay rate is based on certification and experience.

Supervising Staff
  • Scheduling and supervising Dock Duty workers
  • Collecting and approving time sheets to be emailed to Payroll
  • Being in constant contact with the Club Administrator
Equipment
  • Ensuring motor boats are in working order at the start of each day
  • Assist during regattas with set-up, clean-up & tear-down
  • Assist with the race course setup and maintenance
  • Ensuring motor boats are locked up properly
Dock Supervision
  • Greeting the public/members and providing information about our club and programs
  • Ensure unsupervised paddlers leaving the dock are in compliance with club policies
  • Provide safety supervision for the dock area
  • Assist in responding to emergencies as needed and completing necessary reports
  • Closing up and securing building at the end of the day 
  • Ontario Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C
  • Police Check
  • Organizational Skills

  • Dock Duty Staff

The Rideau Canoe club is looking for an enthusiastic people to work part-time as Dock Duty Staff.  Dock Duty Staff will be working part-time over the summer to make sure the canoe club is always tidy and safe. Dock Duty Staff will answer questions from visitors.

  • Race Course Technician

The Rideau Canoe Club Race Course Technician will assist in assembling, maintaining, installing, and removing all on/in-water equipment necessary for on-water racing events, including sprint canoe/kayak, dragon boat, and other such events held on Mooney’s Bay, Ottawa, during the summer months. 

Work as a Race CourseTechnician will entail significant amounts of hands on work. The Rideau Canoe Club will train the individual in the RCC code of safety. Safety equipment such as personal flotation devices (life jackets) and other required on-water safety equipment will be provided by the RCC.

Requirements
  • Good self-motivation
  • Comfortable working alone sometimes and at other times working in a very busy environment
  • Able to adapt to their surroundings and cooperate with others
  • Assisting in the preparation and repair of buildings, safety and referee boats, and other such equipment at the Rideau Canoe Club on Mooney’s Bay
  • Preparation and installation of on-water racing course on Mooney’s Bay
  • On-water course maintenance and alterations
  • Assisting in the ongoing evaluation and repair of boats, motors and mechanical equipment necessary for the day to day operations of the on-water equipment
  • Maintaining a duty log to record daily tasks and work hours
  • Ontario Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C
  • Police Check
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and background
  • Tool handling skills
  • Competent swimmer
